23/11/2020 OSINT Dojo geolocation Quiz
It is monday afternoon for me and i have been busy working and took a break to have a look at twitter when i noticed the Sensei of OSINT Dojo had set a geolocation quiz.
First thing I did was download the image so i can have a look in a bit more detail.
- Flags of various nations including:
- South Africa
- France
- Sign with Golden T and the symbol above.
- The car and van number plate styles that may be a clue to the location.
- There is a faint 2019 google in the middle of the image which indicates that this is a street view image.
First thing that I did was put this into Bing and reverse image such with the cropping function to see if any of the smaller parts returned any results.
Nope, no answers there.
Next to search the what we can see. head over to google and searched for the following:
golden t* south africa hotel
i added hotel as it looks very much like a hotel and the following image results were found
This provided me with a full name Golden Tulip.
Then I went over to the Golden Tulip page and looked at the locations page and those in Africa.
Heading over to google maps as this is where the image originated i search for Golden Tulip and centre the map on Africa.
The first hotel on the list on the left is the Golden Tulip Accra. Clicking on that showed the following image in the preview that is very similar to the roof line of the image in the tweet.
Next stage was to visit google street view for the location and have a look at the front of the building. dropping the street view man where there an road joining the hotel and the main road as seen in the image in twitter.
Rotating to the correction location I have a matching image with the full sign.
Now the quiz asked for the lat/long of the location. To do this i changed back to the normal map and right clicked to get the following Lat/Long:
Alt method is clicking dropping a pin followed by clicking on the pin to give you an easier way to copy and paste with a clickable link at the bottom of the page.
Now back to work
